Agency

Agency is our ability to choose right from wrong. We all know what is right and what is wrong. God gave us agency as part of his plan of happiness. Because we have the ability to choose, we can choose wrong and make mistakes. This is where the Atonement comes in and we are able to repent for the wrong choices we have made. God wants us to make the right choices. By living clean and pure lives, we are able to live with Heavenly Father for eternity. We can be sealed with our family for eternity. The gospel brings so many blessings when we use our agency correctly. I am so grateful for the gift of agency because it allows me to be different from others. We all have the same 24 hours in a day, what we do with those hours is what sets us apart from one another. This influences my life because I want to make wise decisions and use my time wisely. I want to make choices that bring me closer to God and my family. None of us are perfect, so we need to utilize the Atonement to make up for the mistakes we make on a daily basis.

"Sometimes the Lord reveals truth to you when you are not actively seeking it, such as when you are in danger and do not know it. However, the Lord will not force you to learn. You must exercise your agency to authorize the Spirit to teach you. As you make this practice in your life, you will be more perceptive to the feelings that come with spiritual guidance."- Richard G. Scott, "To Acquire Spiritual Guidance", Liahona and Ensign, November 2009

"Wise parents prepare their children to get along without them. They provide opportunities for growth as children acquire the spiritual maturity to exercise their agency properly. And yes, this means children will sometimes make mistakes and learn from them."- Elder Larry Y. Wilson, "Only upon the Principles of Righteousness", General Conference, Apr. 2012

"We have implanted in our souls a desire to be free. The Lord understood this when He granted us our mortal probation. With that freedom, however, comes accountability. We are instructed not to idle away our time nor bury our talents and not use them. We are expected to make our lives better through our own initiatives and efforts."-
L. Tom Perry, "Youth of the Noble Birthright", Ensign, November 1998

"Each of us has come to this Earth with all the tools necessary to make correct choices."-The Three Rs of Choice. President Monson. October 2010.

"Within the confines of whatever circumstances we find ourselves, we will always have the right to choose."-The Three Rs of Choice. President Monson. October 2010.

"Decisions are constantly before us. To make them wisely, courage is needed—the courage to say no, the courage to say yes. Decisions dodetermine destiny."-The Three Rs of Choice. President Monson. October 2010.
"Agency used righteously allows light to dispel the darkness and enables us to live with joy and happiness." - To Act for Ourselves: The Gift and Blessing of Agency. Elder Hales. April 2006.

"Sometimes we forget that our Heavenly Father desires that each of us have this joy. Only by yielding to temptation and sin can we be kept from that joy. And yielding is exactly what Satan wants us to do." - To Act for Ourselves: The Gift and Blessing of Agency. Elder Hales. April 2006.

"Remember our agency is not only for us. We have the responsibility to use it in behalf of others, to lift and strengthen others in their trials and tribulations. Some of our brothers and sisters have lost the full use of their agency through unrighteous choices. Without exposing ourselves to temptation, we can and should invite others to receive the light of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Through friendship and love, we may lead them along the path of obedience and encourage them to use their agency to make the right choices once again."- To Act for Ourselves: The Gift and Blessing of Agency. Elder Hales. April 2006.

" In a thousand ways we are privileged to choose for ourselves. Here we learn from the hard taskmaster of experience. We discern between good and evil. We differentiate as to the bitter and the sweet. We discover that there are consequences attached to our actions."- General Conference is for You. President Monson. May 2012.
