Prayer

Prayer is our means of communication with our Heavenly Father. It is our way of showing our love to him. A small sacrifice on our part can assure him of our trust in him. Prayer is very personal and sacred. It is something we can do at any time in any place in any day. We can pray vocally or internally, God still hears and answers every prayer we offer to Him. I am so grateful for prayer in my own life because it is sometimes the only thing that gets me through the day. Just knowing that Heavenly Father is always there to listen is a huge relief. Prayer helps me align my life with the will of the Father and his specific plan for me. God knows and understands me better than I do myself. Prayer is such a blessing in my life. Prayer is how I have found my testimony of the gospel. I have asked my Heavenly Father for a confirmation of the Book of Mormon and of the words of the Latter Day prophets and he has told me through the power of the Holy Ghost that they are true. I have felt his love and I know because of prayer that my Heavenly Father loves me and cares for me.

"We each have a covenant responsibility to be sensitive to the needs of others and serve as the Savior did—to reach out, bless, and uplift those around us. Often, the answer to our prayer does not come while we’re on our knees but while we’re on our feet serving the Lord and serving those around us. Selfless acts of service and consecration refine our spirits, remove the scales from our spiritual eyes, and open the windows of heaven. By becoming the answer to someone’s prayer, we often find the answer to our own."- Dieter F. Uchtdorf, "Waiting on the Road to Damascus", Liahona and Ensign, May 2011

"If we pray with an eternal perspective, we need not wonder if our most tearful and heartfelt pleadings are heard. ... God will heed your sincere and heartfelt prayers, and your faith will be strengthened."- Russell M. Nelson, "Face the Future with Faith", Liahona and Ensign, May 2011

"Not a day has gone by that I have not communicated with my Father in Heaven through prayer. It is a relationship I cherish—one I would literally be lost without. If you do not now have such a relationship with your Father in Heaven, I urge you to work toward that goal. As you do so, you will be entitled to His inspiration and guidance in your life."- Thomas S. Monson, "Stand in Holy Places", Liahona and Ensign, November 2011

"You can know the things you need to know. Pray that you will learn to receive that inspiration and remain worthy to receive it. Keep that channel—your mind—clean and free from the clutter of the world."- Boyd K. Packer, "Prayer and Promptings", Liahona and Ensign, November 2009

"It is no ordinary blessing to live in these latter days. These are glorious times, foreseen by ancient prophets and attended by watchful, angelic hosts. The Lord is mindful of His Church. He is also mindful of those who... follow the promptings of the Holy Ghost and join with their brothers and sisters the world over in helping to bring forth this great work of God."- Dieter F. Uchtdorf, "A Great Work of God", Liahona and Ensign, April 2010

"Our Heavenly Father did not put us on earth to fail but to succeed gloriously. It may seem paradoxical, but that is why recognizing answers to prayer can sometimes be very difficult. Some face life with only their own experience and capacity to help them. Others seek, through prayer, divine inspiration to know what to do. When required, they qualify for power beyond their own capacity to do it." - Richard G. Scott. Learning to Recognize Answers to Prayer. October 1989.

"We are here on earth to gain experience we can obtain in no other way. We are given the opportunity to grow, to develop, and to gain spiritual maturity. To do that, we must learn to apply truth. How we face challenges and resolve difficult problems is crucially important to our happiness." - Richard G. Scott. Learning to Recognize Answers to Prayer. October 1989.

"Most often what we have chosen to do is right. He will confirm the correctness of our choices His way. That confirmation generally comes through packets of help found along the way. We discover them by being spiritually sensitive. They are like notes from a loving Father as evidence of His approval. If, in trust, we begin something which is not right, He will let us know before we have gone too far. We sense that help by recognizing troubled or uneasy feelings." - Richard G. Scott. Learning to Recognize Answers to Prayer. October 1989.

"Reinforced constantly during my own review of the years has been my knowledge that our prayers are heard and answered. We are familiar with the truth found in 2 Nephi in the Book of Mormon: “Men are, that they might have joy.”1 I testify that much of that joy comes as we recognize that we can communicate with our Heavenly Father through prayer and that those prayers will be heard and answered—perhaps not how and when we expected they would be answered, but they will be answered and by a Heavenly Father who knows and loves us perfectly and who desires our happiness. Hasn’t He promised us, “Be thou humble; and the Lord thy God shall lead thee by the hand, and give thee answer to thy prayers”? - President Monson. Consider the Blessings. October 2012.

"A prominent American judge was asked what we as citizens of the countries of the world could do to reduce crime and disobedience to law and to bring peace and contentment into our lives and into our nations. He carefully replied, “I would suggest a return to the old-fashioned practice of family prayer.” - President Monson. Come Unto Him in Prayer and Faith. May 2009.
