Pornography is a very serious sin that is very prevalent in
our generation. It is one of Satan’s most powerful tools to lead us away from
our Heavenly Father. Pornography destroys individuals, families, and
generations. It is very addictive and hard to stop once participated in.
Pornography is very hard to overcome, but it is possible. We are so blessed to
have resources from the church that are so willing to help those who struggle
to overcome such a serious transgression. Pornography should be avoided at all
times. The Atonement is the only way for those to come back. Heavenly Father is
very forgiving for those who are willing to repent and come back. He knows the
potential of each of us and hates to see Satan get in the way of us coming back
to his presence. I am so grateful for such powerful men in my life including my
literal father, brothers, and husband. They are all such great examples to me
and I look up to their courage so much. It takes so much strength to avoid and
overcome pornography. It can be a constant battle in many people’s lives. We
should always be aware and try to help in any way that we can.
"Sin is addictive; self-degenerating; conducive to other strains of corruption; deadening to spirituality, conscience, and reason; blinding to reality; contagious; destructive to mind, body, and spirit. Sin is spiritually corrosive. Unrestrained it becomes all-consuming. It is overcome by repentance and righteousness." - Richard G. Scott. To Acquire Spiritual Guidance. October 2009.
"Satan has become a master at using the addictive power of pornography to limit individual capacity to be led by the Spirit. The onslaught of pornography in all of its vicious, corroding, destructive forms has caused great grief, suffering, heartache, and destroyed marriages. It is one of the most damning influences on earth. Whether it be through the printed page, movies, television, obscene lyrics, vulgarities on the telephone, or flickering personal computer screen, pornography is overpoweringly addictive and severely damaging. This potent tool of Lucifer degrades the mind and the heart and the soul of any who use it. All who are caught in its seductive, tantalizing web and remain so will become addicted to its immoral, destructive influence. For many, that addiction cannot be overcome without help. The tragic pattern is so familiar. It begins with curiosity that is fueled by its stimulation and is justified by the false premise that when done privately, it does no harm to anyone else. For those lulled by this lie, the experimentation goes deeper, with more powerful stimulations, until the trap closes and a terribly immoral, addictive habit exercises its vicious control."- Richard G. Scott. To Acquire Spiritual Guidance. October 2009.
"There is a way out for anyone involved in such addictions, said Elder Oaks. “First, acknowledge the evil. Don’t defend it or try to justify yourself. Second, seek the help of the Lord and His servants. “Third, do all that you can to avoid pornography,” Elder Oaks said. “If you ever find yourself in its presence—which can happen to anyone in the world in which we live—follow the example of Joseph of Egypt. When temptation caught him in her grip, he left temptation and ‘got him out’ (Gen. 39:12). “Finally, do not patronize pornography. Do not use your purchasing power to support moral degradation. And young women, please understand that if you dress immodestly, you are magnifying this problem by becoming pornography to some of the men who see you." -Power to Overcome Pornography.
"Permissiveness, immorality, pornography, drugs, the power of peer pressure—all these and more—cause many to be tossed about on a sea of sin and crushed on the jagged reefs of lost opportunities, forfeited blessings, and shattered dreams." -President Monson. Believe, Obey, Endure. April 2012.
"Don’t be afraid to walk out of a movie, turn off a television set, or change a radio station if what’s being presented does not meet your Heavenly Father’s standards. In short, if you have any question about whether a particular movie, book, or other form of entertainment is appropriate, don’t see it, don’t read it, don’t participate."- Preparation Brings Blessings - President Monson, May 2010.
“[Pornography] is like a raging storm, destroying individuals and families, utterly ruining what was once wholesome and beautiful. … The time has come for any one of us who is so involved to pull himself out of the mire.”- Gordon B. Hinckley, “A Tragic Evil among Us,” Liahona and Ensign, Nov. 2004, 59, 62; see also Dallin H. Oaks, “Pornography,” Liahona and Ensign, May 2005, 87–90; Jeffrey R. Holland, “Place No More for the Enemy of My Soul,” Liahona and Ensign, May 2010, 44–46.
"Pornography, violence, intolerance, and ungodliness destroy families, marriages, and individual lives. These dangers are distributed through many media, including magazines, books, television, movies, and music, as well as the Internet. The Lord will help you to recognize and avoid those evils. It is the early recognition of danger and a clear course correction that will keep you in the light of the gospel. Minor decisions can lead to major consequences."-President Uchtdorf. A Matter of a Few Degrees. April 2008.
“The old saying ‘The Lord is voting for me, and Lucifer is voting against me, but it is my vote that counts’ describes a doctrinal certainty that our agency is more powerful than the adversary’s will,” President Packer said. “Agency is precious. We can foolishly, blindly give it away, but it cannot be forcibly taken from us. “There is also an age-old excuse: ‘The devil made me do it.’ Not so! He can deceive you and mislead you, but he does not have the power to force you or anyone else to transgress or to keep you in transgression.”- Power to Overcome Pornography
Anxiously you ask, “Is there a way to safety? Can someone guide me? Is there an escape from threatened destruction?” The answer is a resounding yes! I counsel you: Look to the lighthouse of the Lord. There is no fog so dense, no night so dark, no gale so strong, no mariner so lost but what its beacon light can rescue. It beckons through the storms of life. It calls, “This way to safety; this way to home.”- Standards of Strength. President Monson. October 2008.
