The Atonement is one of the most important principles of the
gospel. The Atonement is our only way to attain salvation for eternal life. In
this life, all of us make mistakes. Nobody is perfect; which is why we have the
atonement to save us from our sins. Christ suffered for every single sin for
every single person that has or ever will live. Because he felt our pains, we
are able to live with him and Heavenly Father again. It is truly an amazing
gift. Heavenly Father is so merciful to us that we can actually be forgiven
from all or any sin. Another part of the Atonement is the sacrament. Every
week, we can be renewed and cleansed from our sins by taking the sacrament. The
sacrament is blessed in Christ’s name and symbolizes the sacrifice he performed
for us. I am so grateful for the Atonement in my life and that I can repent of
my sins and be freed. The gospel is truly amazing and I am so blessed to be a
member of it. Heavenly Father is so patient with me and cares so much for me
that he was willing to send his only begotten son down to the Earth to feel the
pains of my sins. What a powerful blessing.
"I do not know who in this vast audience today may need to hear the message of forgiveness inherent in this parable [of the laborers in the vineyard], but however late you think you are, however many chances you think you have missed, however many mistakes you feel you have made or talents you think you don’t have, or however far from home and family and God you feel you have traveled, I testify that you have not traveled beyond the reach of divine love. It is not possible for you to sink lower than the infinite light of Christ’s Atonement shines."- Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, "The Laborers in the Vineyard", General Conference, Apr. 2012
"I believe that none of us can conceive the full import of what Christ did for us in Gethsemane, but I am grateful every day of my life for His atoning sacrifice in our behalf. ... The darkness of death can ever be dispelled by the light of revealed truth. ‘I am the resurrection, and the life,’ spoke the Master. ‘He that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die.’"- President Thomas S. Monson, "He Is Risen: A Prophet’s Testimony", Liahona, Apr. 2012
"If you have made no mistakes, then you do not need the Atonement. If you have made mistakes, and all of us have, whether minor or serious, then you have an enormous need to find out how they can be erased so that you are no longer in darkness." - President Packer. The Atonement. October 2012.
"No matter what our transgressions have been, no matter how much our actions may have hurt others, that guilt can all be wiped out. To me, perhaps the most beautiful phrase in all scripture is when the Lord said, “Behold, he who has repented of his sins, the same is forgiven, and I, the Lord, remember them no more.”" - President Packer. The Atonement. October 2012.
"Throughout your life there may be times when you have gone places you never should have gone and done things you never should have done. If you will turn away from sin, you will be able one day to know the peace that comes from following the pathway of complete repentance."- Boyd K. Packer, "Boyd K. Packer"
"The Savior can wipe away our tears of regret and remove the burden of our sins. His Atonement allows us to leave the past behind and move forward with clean hands, a pure heart, and a determination to do better and especially to become better."-President Uchtdorf. Of Regrets and Resolutions. October 2012.
"The great and infinite Atonement is the supreme act of forgiveness and reconciliation. Its magnitude is beyond my understanding, but I testify with all my heart and soul of its reality and ultimate power. The Savior offered Himself as ransom for our sins. Through Him we gain forgiveness."-President Uchtdorf. One Key to a Happy Family. October 2012
"He made salvation available to every repentant soul. His Atonement conquered death, and He permits the worthy deceased to receive all ordinances of salvation vicariously."-Richard G. Scott. The Joy of Redeeming the Dead. October 2012.
"The Crucifixion, Atonement, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ mark the beginning of a Christian life, not the end of it. "- Jeffrey R. Holland. The First Great Commandment. October 2012.
